Moral Bankruptcy and Societal Breakdown Rant

As I sit here reading the indictment on Jerry Sandusky, a previously highly respected football coach/defensive coordinator for Penn State, I find myself infuriated by the collusion among the “Old Boy Network”, which was clearly complicit in what is fast becoming a disgusting, sordid story of serial child rape and a widespread cover-up of what is being labeled an open secret. The reduction of children to the status of a sexual toy by this animal is enraging under its own weight, but the ensuing cover-up is beyond infuriating. As far as I am concerned what has occurred is nothing short of a conspiracy involving the highest placed people at Penn State and local law enforcement officials who declined to prosecute [even though they had an eye witness], and those involved are just as guilty of rape as Jerry Sandusky. I’m not sure how someone is able to justify these actions to themselves for nearly two decades, and how his spouse could possibly have not known about his deviant and perverted lust for prepubescent little boys.




The disturbing picture this paints is painful to acknowledge, because to do so will validate what I have feared for a long, long time; our moral code and ethical standards have been erased, and they have been replaced with selfish desire, lust for power and greed. Watching these sickening acts come in to greater focus and intense scrutiny in the press, I am reminded of an infamous child care scandal that erupted many years ago involving a family of “caregivers” who owned a [family run] day-care center[s] who were found to have abused a large number of their toddler charges, and to have compiled a library of kiddie porn using the kids as their stars. What strikes me as familiar is the blatant abuse of power by an adult over a child and the intense denials. Just as the [guilty] family members back then did, Jerry Sandusky is sticking to his story and is being supported [for now anyway] by his loyal wife, who is either stupid as well as blind, or simply shell-shocked and unable to process what is happening.



In the end, there will be a grueling trial, many more victims will testify to deviant sexual assaults, and a deal will be cut. Will justice be served? I doubt it. Jerry Sandusky will be vigorously defended by some hot shot law firm, and every accusation will be denied. The defense will try and place blame on the boys and will go to every length to discredit them. When it is all over, he will get thirty years or so in a cup-cake prison somewhere where he will grow in to an incontinent old man, but where he will not be punished at the level justified by the acts. The level of justice required for the terrible things this disturbed pervert deserves is death. Short of that, as far as I am concerned, he’s getting off easy.



This scandal will come to illustrate the precipitous decline in our moral fabric and the absence of ethics in those who we trust to instill these very things in our impressionable children. It will further illustrate that the bottom line here was and is, money. That’s right; money. The fallout is already starting, as sponsors flee the wreckage coming at them. I foresee an exodus of donations from alumni as the disgusting conspiracy of silence is broken open and the complicit parties are exposed. What they all tried so hard to ignore and cover-up will unravel a football powerhouse and destroy the reputation of one of the most respected state colleges in the country. I say fuck ‘em, they deserve it. Shame on these bastards and their lust for power, money and fame. Shame on the administrators for not crushing Sandyskys nuts a decade ago. Shame on all of them for their depraved indifference for the welfare of these vulnerable little boys. And finally, shame on society for placing such an incredible importance on wealth and fame, as cheering the avarice that breeds this immorality.
